THE WEEK

It was a short trading week as the Market was closed on Friday.  Only a handful of companies reported earnings and there were no major economic announcements, making for a very quiet trading week with lower than normal volume. 

It was also the end of the quarter and as expected on Thursday (the last trading day of the quarter) there was a flurry of adjustments by the trading funds.  That was the only drama I saw all week.

LOOKING AHEAD

This coming week there are two economic announcements which could have a short time disruptor affect – the PMI is reporting on Monday and the unemployment rate is reported on Friday.  I don’t believe either reports will greatly affect the Market.  We are also between the season of earning announcements.  I believe the Market will continue up at a very slow pace with no major drama.  I say that with a caution note.  Many times, all it takes is a surprise announcement by some politician or an unexpected event to get the Market moving fast either up or down.  Never let your vigilance down even in this apparent calm.

HOW AM I DOING?

It was the worst trading quarter I have had since I began trading.  I reviewed my results on Thursday’s webinar.  When things don’t go well in trading or in life, I don’t beat myself up not do I give up.  I analyze looking for the reasons and underlying patterns.  I don’t want to keep making the same blunders.  I also examine the trades that went well.  I want to solidify in my mind those patterns.  Bottom line – it is OK to occasionally fail.  It is how you handled the failure and re-coop moving forward.  I believe it makes you a stronger and more resilient trader.

This week is the start of the new quarter.  There are very few companies reporting their earnings.  There are only few economic announcements this week and they probably won’t be Market disruptors.  The Market is barely moving.  The good news is it is moving up.  So, what and how do you trade in Market’s quiet time?
