It is easy to want to make a stock market forecast for the next 6 months. And sometimes it works - the market generally will follow the same patterns over and over again. But people forget that things happen in our every day lives that affect what the market does. I call these situations The Surprise Factors. Today we're going to talk through how to make sure that these surprise factors work to your benefit.

When I first started trading, I would see gap ups and gap down in stock prices. There were times these gaps would totally derail my trade turning a winning trade into a total bust.

What’s going on? Why all the gaps? I was puzzled. What I did was start looking at these gaps and try to understand what was going on. In my over two decades of trading experience I have come to appreciate these Surprise Factors because knowing how to navigate these surprises allows for big rewards!

There are two kinds of surprise factors.

The first is a surprise that affects the Market place in its entirety.
For me 9/11 is the most memorable and the most drastic one.

An announcements by the Government is another kind of surprise.
A Jobs Report comes out on the first Friday of each month. Sometimes the figures reported are a surprise, sometimes they are not. The Surprise Factor is how the trading community reacts to the news. If they don’t like the news and react by selling off their positions, prices gap down – Surprise!

It isn’t necessarily the news itself but rather it is the reaction by the trading herd to the news - that's the Surprise Factor. And that is why trying to make a stock market forecast for the next 6 months is nearly impossible. But your reaction can turn surprises into rewards for you!
